Saratoga WarHorse is a nonprofit organization assisting veterans who are suffering from invisible, psychological wounds by providing a confidential, peer-to-peer, action based, equine-assisted experience that initiates immediate and empowering changes.
“Only 1 percent of American men and women have answered their country’s call to serve and protect in the military, and yet out of the entire general population in the United States, those who have served account for 20 percent of all suicides.”
Saratoga WarHorse offers veterans a three-day experience that has proven to be effective and invaluable for those struggling to adjust to life after military service. The program is provided at no cost to the veterans.
At Saratoga WarHorse we love Thoroughbred horses! So when the opportunity to get involved with the RRP Makeover came in 2016, we felt it was a great fit. Bodie, aka Boss Daddy competed in 2016 and had an amazing experience finishing 8th in his division of amateur owner. Since then, he has been spending time with our Aiken Instructor, Julie Robins in Aiken, SC to continue his training and to find his forever home. When Steve Houghton, a veteran, who participated with SWH in March, expressed an interest in continuing learning with horses, he was offered Bodie to work with. The two have become fast friends and enjoy spending lots of time together!
For 2017, Julie Robins has agreed to take the reins for the RRP Makeover and was very fortunate to receive a horse named Party Barn from Godolphin Racing in January. Party Barn has participated in two SWH classes and greatly benefited from his time in the connection process. He now is enjoying light riding and developing into a wonderful horse. It is Julie’s goal to participate in the Liberty Division of the upcoming competition with a patriotic musical demonstration. If you would like to follow Party Barn visit their website at www.PartyBarnandJulie.com.
TOWN OF SARATOGA – Bodie is six years old and he’s already on his second career and preparing for a third.
These days the former thoroughbred racehorse is enjoying himself at Cricket Hill Farm.
This is where Saratoga War Horse helps veterans suffering from the stresses of war by connecting them with horses.
Saratoga WarHorse Foundation, a nonprofit organization offering veterans a three-day experience that has proven to be effective and invaluable for those struggling to adjust to life after military service, will be participating in the Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium organized by the Retired Racehorse Project (RRP).
